Using the computer is what most students do when they get home from school every day. For them, connecting to the Internet is a must. Most students make use of the Internet to play games and to communicate with their friends. The Internet also helps them in their projects and research work. Moreover, the use of the Internet helps to conserve the environment as emails and e-news websites reduce paper usage. Although the Internet has negative aspects such as pornography and online scams, its positive ones far outweigh them. As such, I strongly disagree that the Internet causes more harm than good.
The Internet helps students to find out more about the subjects that they are taking or are going to take. It helps them clarify things that they are unsure of. Search engines on the Internet also help students to widen their general knowledge. In addition, students can conserve the environment by emailing their friends instead of writing letters. What’s more, communication with their pen pals is faster through emails.
Furthermore, the Internet can help everyone to connect with people overseas. As a result, we can make friends with people from other countries and learn more about their cultures. The Internet has also made it easier for people with have relatives or friends overseas to communicate without the use of money. There is no cost attached to emailing or chatting online. The Internet also allows them to see their relatives or friends in other countries through the webcams. In this way, they can also know how are their relatives or friends doing.
Besides the above, the Internet allows people to shop online as it is convenient and time-saving. However, shopping online may encourage people to buy more as it is more convenient and people do not have to go out to buy. Hence, they might spend more money on the Internet than going out to buy personally.
It cannot be denied that the Internet has its dangers. Irresponsible people make use of it to cheat young children and women through chat rooms. There is a plethora of pornography websites on the Internet as well. Some people also argue that the Internet causes harm as students start to lose concentration when they get too obsessed with their Internet games and sometimes, online chats. However, the Internet is not harmful in itself – the blame should not be put on the Internet but on the people who use it for harmful purposes. Students should also have the self-discipline to stop using the computer when they have to.
In conclusion, the Internet is not as bad as it seems to be. Although the Internet has its dangers and unpleasant aspects, this negative influence can be controlled by avoidance, as well as behaviour. Ultimately, the Internet has more benefits than harm.

An Interesting Thing That Happened During The Holidays
Despite having been to Hong Kong many times before, I had never been to Ocean Park. Last December, I was finally able to visit this tourist spot. It was my first trip there and the most memorable ride that my family and I took was the ‘Raging River’, a boat ride on a winding waterway.
Before we boarded the boat, we saw some people wearing ponchos. We were puzzled about this and wondered why. I was filled with trepidation as we boarded the boat. We did not have seat belts and had to hold on to the handrails. The boat moved and we had a slow ride around before we went up a steep slope.
Due to the twists and turns of the waterway, we kept knocking into its sides. We went through a dark tunnel, up a gentle slope before arriving at the final steep slope. At first, I naively thought that the gentle slope was the highlight of the ride and I screamed when we descended it. Little did I know that the boat would take us down a more fearsome slope.
While the boat was going up the slope, I was really nervous and my heart was stamping furiously. My parents told my sister and me not to release our hands no matter what. We heeded their advice and as the boat plunged down, I screamed my lungs out! It felt as though my heart had been left behind.
At the end of the slope, the water splashed onto our bodies. The towering waves drenched us from head to toe. It was then that I realised the need for a poncho and regretted not wearing one.
I had sat at the end of the boat, which was the worst position because it felt like I would be flung out of the boat any time, when it went down the slope. It was the most thrilling ride that I had ever taken. Nonetheless, I vowed never to take such rides again because it was also a traumatic experience for me.

Last Post of the June Holidays
This week has been a hectic week for me as it is the last week of the June vacations. I have been on my projects and have been checking my projects time and again, making sure that everything is in order before I hand in. This week is also the week I rushed my friends for the project details and information so that I could finish my projects.
I have just finished checking all my projects and making sure that everything is in order. Fortunately, I managed to finish my literature project today. However, I had difficulties finding a shop that provides binding services. I counted myself lucky when a guy from one of the photo shop told me that his friend provides binding services, which was just across the road. I found my way there and the shopkeeper told me she was supposed to close at two o’clock. I arrived at three o’clock; she told me that she could not finish her work so she opened the shop till she is done.
I counted myself really lucky, as many shops are not opened in Sundays. After that, I made my way to my grandmother’s house. It was a wide spread for today. As my parents had food poisoning, they could not eat fried food. We abstained from those foods by not cooking them but eating porridge. I felt that this week is not a good week to pass at all as I was deadbeat.

Third Post of the June Holidays
This week can be considered a happy and a sad week for me. The reason is simple. It is simply because I had my worst cry in this week as well as the best day in this week. I had my councilor camp this week. It was a three days two nights camp. It lasted from 11 June to 13 June 2007.
It was a fun experience at the councilor camp. There were lots of fascinating games organised by the seniors. It is also the time that I realized that the secondary four seniors are stepping down due to the preparation for their major examinations. In the camp, I learnt lots of new games that I had never played before. During the first night, we went for a night hike at Changi Beach. Some of our group members had to be blindfolded and we took turns to be blindfolded. The other group members had to lead the blindfolded people and this led to the trust we should have in our friends. It is actually team bonding.
On the second day, we went on a heritage tour where we found out about the historical places in Singapore. It was the time I found out how unique Singapore is. I remembered the time when a foreigner asked me what Singapore was known for. I simply replied that I did not know. This experience have made me realized that I have been wrong all the while. I had lots of fun walking and visiting many places in Singapore.
In the night, due to the rain, we could not have our campfire. Instead, a night walk in our school replaced it. It was not scary at all as I had already prepared myself for the walk. We were being blindfolded and we had to hold on the string and walk on our own. Many people around me disturbed me. However, I remained strong except for some incidents I thought that made me cried. Everyone thought that I was afraid. I explained my troubles to Mr Paul and these troubles had already followed me since the first day I entered this school.
Later, Mr Tan spoke to me for about one hour and he advised me not to torture myself because of other people and it was not worth it at all. Thank you Mr Paul and Mr Tan! However, these troubles were my personal troubles and have not been let go at anyone. I hope that you will not disclose my personal troubles to anyone. I am really grateful to them for supporting me when I was down. It was my worst cry that night.

Second Post of the June Holidays
This week had been a hectic week for me. I was running up and down like a mad dog. However, I felt that this week had allowed me to work up my stamina in sports because I moving vigorously and not lacing around. It is indeed a fruitful week for me.
Most of the time, I was not at home all the while and spent my days going for tuitions and running out to do errands for my mother. My great grandmother had been admitted to the hospital and we were all worried for her. Hence, my grandmother and mother would have to visit her everyday. I, as the oldest granddaughter, will have to take over all the duties of cleaning the houses and fetching my younger sister and cousin. Fortunately, I have only one cousin and sister to look after. I spent my days fetching them from school and bringing them to eat. Sometimes, I would cook. However, they did not like my cooking. I felt really disappointed at times.
I had to manage my time well for this week. I had to do my homework, look after my cousin and sister, clean the house and running errands for my mother. I am exhausted and glad that this week is over. Hopefully, my great grandmother will recover fast and be discharged or else the next week will be another hectic week for me.

First Post of the June Holidays
I had lots of fun this week. On Wednesday, we had the mother tongue cultural camp. There was a mixture of Chinese, Malays and Indians. In the morning, we had our own culture games in our respective places.
For Chinese, we had external vendors coming to our school and teaching us the art of China like calligraphy and rice drawing. In the process of learning, I realized that the Chinese culture is somewhat identical to other races. For example, rice drawing part of the Indian culture. There was a technique to everything that we did.
The first activity of that morning was paper cutting. We folded the paper into our favourite shape and started cutting from wherever we wanted. My work piece came out with a star in the middle and with diamond shapes covering the sides of the star. I had lots of fun cutting it especially when the cut paper flies out after cutting. People in China used to paper cutting and hanging them by the door.
Later, we did calligraphy. We used the paintbrush and drew lots of pictures. However, I drew only the fishes and water plant moving around it, as we did not have much time. After the tea break, we had rice drawing. We used the toothpicks and put our drawing together. There were lots of different colours. It took up a lot of our time. As I was impatient, I poured the rice onto my drawing and used the toothpick to put it in order. It did not turn out nice. However, I did not mind at all because I just wanted it to be presentable.
After lunch, it was the time for the different races to gather together for multi-racial games. There were rice ball making, speaking in different languages, paper cutting etc. We had to get into groups of 9 and each group must consist of Chinese, Malays and Indians. We formed our group in no time and gathered together to get prepared for the game. It was really exciting and thrilling. We started our games. I had many chops as I did well and some chops are because of my friends. I am really thankful to them for helping me. It is really a friend in need and friend indeed. I tried my best to complete all the chops but I could not. I was left with two chops. I submitted my score sheet and was surprised when I got the second. My best friend cheered for me. I was really elated upon receiving the prize. It was the best day in my whole week although I was wearied out during this week.

Self-Introduction
I am an impatient but yet have the never-say-die attitude girl. From young, I have a passion for English and it is also the language if speak at home. My parents insist on speaking English at home and I am not allowed to speak other languages at home including dialects. My parents correct me whenever I phrase my sentences wrongly. This enables me to improve my English. Hence, I love English because I am able to score in that subject and even use it in other countries. I like blue and dolphins. I hate people who backstab me as I have found out some people who have backstabbed me. The feeling was quite horrible and I am tolerating them. All of us are in secondary two, why must they backstab me? It really puzzles me.
My family consists of my parents, my younger sister and I. My sister and I always bicker but we always end our quarrels with each other in each room. It is actually quite funny as we quarrel very often and my mother would ask us to go to our own rooms and not face each other since we love to quarrel so much. My friends are all over the world and I even have friends from Hong Kong and even America. I feel very fortunate as I have friends from other countries and I know some of their religions and their countries' cultures and customs. I am still in contact with my primary school and kindergarten friends although we are not together now. We meet up sometimes and share our experiences in schools and at home. It is really interesting to know what happening in their schools and my school. In this way, I can also make suggestions to the school if I find that their ideas are great. My friends in the class are not really considered as friends. It is due to the trust that they made me lose in them. Anyway, in life there are ups and downs and it is how we go and solve them. In class, I still have lots of friends and even other classes, as some friends that I have now are really great. They can also be counted as true friends as they listen and advise me when I am feeling down.
Chong Boon Secondary School has brought me way off my expectations and I am very happy to have the permission to do some things unlike my primary school. My primary school is really strict in attire, behaviour and studies. My current school allows us to express our ideas and take charge of some of the school events. It gives us a chance to be an organiser and allows us to be a leader. Chong Boon Secondary School is my second choice when I chose this school and when my parents brought me to have a look at this school, I was really impressed by the appearance of the school and I lost interest in my first choice. I really like the teachers in this school especially when if am able to learn more things from my subject teachers. This has allowed me to feel at home when in school. I treat this school as my home and I will treasure it throughout my years in this school.
